Kurdish Oriental Carpets
Kurdistan is one of the most beautiful provinces of Iran, which has a very green and mountainous nature. The capital of this province, Sanandaj (Senneh), is world-famous for oriental carpet and kilim weaving. Exact information is not available from the beginning of carpet weaving in Kurdistan, but the history of the Sanandaj carpet weaving industry is estimated to be more than one hundred years.
Kurdistan is considered one of the best areas for livestock, especially sheep breeding, due to its vast and smooth pastures. The wool used in the weaving of Sanandaj carpets is usually of the hand-spun type and has a soft, thin, and very high-quality material. Kurdish oriental handmade carpets are divided into three categories: Sanneh carpets, Bijar carpets, nomadic and rural carpets.
